I recently upgraded my Logitech Headset from the H390 to the H540 and I have been very impressed with the quality of the audio and appreciate the comfortable ear pads and headpiece. However, there is one improvement I would really like to see in the H540 which I’ll cover in this review.
Rich Stereo Sound
The H540 Logitech Headset features laser-tuned drivers and a built-in EQ system that delivers superior audio quality and rich bass tones. Before I started this blog post I was on a Skype call and using my H540 with Skype and then switched over to iTunes radio and tuned in to a nice classical station. I was about to change over to my Bose Noise-Canceling headset but decided to leave the H540 on and have really enjoyed the music with them. Watch the video.
On-Ear Controls And Comfortable Design
I really like the on-ear controls that enable you to easily adjust the volume up or down and a feature I just found helpful on my Skype call was Mute Control Button built into the headset. There’s also a bright red light in the control cord that illuminates when the Mute Button is activated which is really helpful.
The soft leatherette padded headband and ear cups allow you to talk or listen in comfort for extended lengths of time which is especially nice when you’re listening to music or on Skype, a Google Hangout or extended webinar. And yes, the H540 works with the common calling applications including Skype, Google Hangouts, Yahoo! Messenger, and other calling services.
The adjustable microphone also reduces background noises so your voice is clear and easily understood to the other party. However, the adjustable microphone is only usable on your right side and that’s my one complaint about the H540. I would have preferred the microphone to be fully adjustable in 360 instead of the 180 it is. If it could be rotated a full 360 around the earpiece then you could use the H540 on either the right or left ear rather than just the right ear. It’s a minor point but I do like to have the ability to be able to use the microphone from either side of my head.
USB Plug and Play
With the plug-and-play USB connection, the H540 Logitech Headset works equally well with either Windows or Mac computers.
